Landscape Models
Setup and maintenance of the DLM250
The DLM describe the topographic features of the landscape and the relief of the earth’s surface in vector format. The features are assigned to a certain feature type and defined owing to their spatial position, their geometric type, descriptive attributes and relations to other objects (relations).

Each feature possesses one unambiguous identification number applying to the whole of Germany (identificator). Which fearure types are contained in a DLM and how the features must be formed has been defined in the feature type catalogue of the “Amtliches Topographisch-Kartographisches Informationssystem” (ATKIS®) (Authoritative Topographic-Cartographic Information System).
Processing of the DLM includes general data administration, editing of basic data as well as acquisition and annual updating of geometries and pertinent factual attributes of the whole dataset in accordance with the specific priorities.
Processing is done in productional databases both for the DLM250 and the DLM1000, the contents of which exceeds requirements of the ATKIS® feature type catalogues in order to enable derivation of further products besides the ATKIS® products.
This is to show how from the productional database of the DLM250 the data for the ATKIS®-DLM250, the military map Joint Operation Graphics (JOG), the military vector dataset Vmap and the EuroRegionalMap are derived.

Setup and maintenance of the DLM1000
Derivation of data is performed from the production database of the DLM1000 for the ATKIS®-DLM1000, the Hydrological Atlas of Germany (HAD), the National Atlas of the Federal Republic of Germany, proof hydrological data acc. to the EU Water Framework Directive and the EuroGlobalMap.
