Production
The Public Surveying Authorities of the states (Länder) of the Federal Republic of Germany have the statutory mandate to capture the topography of their assigned region and to display it according to uniform principles.
By means of a uniform ATKIS® project on a nationwide level, the topography of the Federal Republic of Germany is being described in a spatial topographic data base from which user-oriented digital models of the earth’s surface are derived.
As a result of an administrative agreement with the federal states, the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) is responsible for small-scale products within the ATKIS® product line (i.e. scales equal or smaller than 1:200 000).
In the following is described the BKG workflow for producing and updating
- the Digital Landscape Models
- the Digital Topographic Maps and
- the inherent Data Aquisition.
