New VG2500 for Download

Date: 2011-09-15

A new Administrative Map Germany (VG2500) is now available. The map has been updated as a reaction to the reshaped “Kreis” regions in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and to a renaming of one of the administrative units “Kreis” in Niedersachsen as of 04 September 2011.

The VG2500 map is available as usual as PDF version in a printing format DIN A3 (which corresponds to the scale 1:2 500 000), or as freely scaleable format up to DIN A0 for free download. For more VG2500 versions (Adobe Illustrator format, ArcInfo Shape format, EPS format, and SVG format) please visit our GeoDatenZentrum under Download/Deutschland-Karten.

In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on 04 September 2011 the reshaping of the administrative units “Kreis” became effective having for consequence a reduced number of “Landkreise” and “Kreis”-free cities and towns. Actually there are now six “Grosskreise” and two “Kreis”-free towns.

In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern the citizens could vote on the names for the new administrative units on the occasion of the local elections.

The new administrative units “Grosskreis” have the following names: Nordwestmecklenburg, Landkreis Rostock, Mecklenburgische Seenplatte, Vorpommern-Greifswald, Ludwigslust-Parchim, and Vorpommern-Rügen.

The two administrative units (“kreisfreie Stadt”) Rostock and Schwerin remained unchanged.

Besides this new situation in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern there is also a renamed “Kreis” in the Land of Niedersachsen. The name of the “KreisSoltau-Fallingbostel is now “Heidekreis”.
