Digital Landscape Models
The Digital Landscape Models (DLM) describe the topographical features of the landscape and the ground surface topography in the vector format. The individual features are allocated to a particular feature type and defined on the basis of their spatial position, geometric type, descriptive attributes and relationships with other features (relations).
Each feature has an unambiguous identification number (identificator). It is laid down in the Feature Catalogues of the Authoritative Topographic-Cartographic Information System (ATKIS®) Germany which feature types of Germany are contained in a DLM and how the features have to be formed.
The description for the content of the European datasets by EuroGeographics is regulated in the “Data Specifications and Feature Catalogues – see there in the chapter “Samples” of the individual product.
The data may be used in manifold fields of application, i.e.
- for derivation of analogous and Digital Topographic Maps (DTK),
- as visual background in GIS, CAD and navigation systems,
- as transpositions for 3D visualizations, or
- as basic data for spatial analyses, simulations and marketing projects.
The BKG is offering Digital Landscape Models for Germany and Europe in cooperation with AdV and EuroGeographics.
