Digital maps for Germany
CD ROM Top 200
The Top200 Bundesrepublik Deutschland (TOP200) is a component of the 14-part CD series “Top50/Top200” of the German National Survey and presents the official topographic maps in the scales 1:200 000, 1:500 000 and 1:1 000 000.
With Top200 you may scroll with your mouse over a seamless territory of Germany and find an exact position by means of a search function for place names. Integrated drawing functions help you to create your own thematic map and to calculate distances and areas. A digital terrain model depicts illustratively the relief of the terrain as a height profile or even as stereo views when using red-green spectacles. A flight simulation with a dynamically represented perspective provides for the spectator the possibility to fly interactively over Germany.
By means of the manifold integrated GPS software “Navigation” you can create waypoints, routes and tracks and transmit them to outdoor GPS devices. In the same way you may visualize on the Top200 your tracks recorded by GPS.
Digital Topographic Maps
The Digital Topographic Maps (DTK) are covering the data from the existing official topographic map series in the raster data format. They are provided in different layers (single layers) which are classified according to cartographic elements, and as colour combinations (combined layer) representing the complete map image. This concerns either
the traditional Digital Topographic Maps which have been created by scanning the analogous originals and updating them by computer-aided methods (named as DTK-V or “interim edition”),
or
- the new Digital Topographic Maps which have a new graphical representation and a new layer classification and which are derived from a corresponding vector-based Digital Landscape Model (DLM) in a raster data format (the so-called DTK).
The DTK are especially well-suited as spatial reference and background information to be superposed by expert data, and for computer processing of thematic maps (e.g. geology, hydrology, land use, nature protection etc.). Further possibilities of use are:
- Creation of expert information systems (environment, traffic, disaster protection etc.),
- combination with digital terrain models and/or remote sensing data,
- planning and production of 3D representations, and
- to be linked with statistical data from very different users and communities from administration and economy.
The data in the scales 1 : 25 000 up to 1 : 100 000 are processed and published by the survey and mapping agencies of the federal states.
The data in the scales 1 : 200 000 up to 1 : 1 000 000 are processed, published and distributed by the BKG in cooperation with AdV.
