Development

Emphasis within the scope of the development activities is placed on the improvement of methods and procedures for the production and quality assurance of the basic spatial data.

Conceptional and demand-oriented further development of the products in accordance with the state of the art of science and technology is continued. Sustainable securing of the availability of interoperable, topographic spatial base data in the form of analog and digital standard products is thus ensured.

Also, the methods serving cartographic editing of the topographic spatial base data are further extended. User-specific provision of the topographic spatial base data in the form of analog and digital standardized products is further developed, conversion of the ATKIS® product palette to the ISO-based AAA project of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Vermessungsverwaltungen der Länder (Working Committee of the Surveying Authorities of the States of the Federal Republic of Germany) playing an important role.

Process developments for the purpose of geodata integration are maintained with regard to the combination of spatial base data and expert information data.

Establishment of a uniform digital Terrain Model of Germany is used, among others, for the needs of flood protection.

At the European level the Bundesamt für Kartographie und Geodäsie (Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy) contributes to the development and production of pan-European reference datasets. Cooperation within the initiative "INfrastructure for SPatial InfoRmation in Europe (INSPIRE)" serving the setup of a European GeoDataInfrastructure (ESDI) must in this context be mentioned in particular.
