Browser Compatibility

The internet pages can be viewed with standard browsers like Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and Safari. For best results we recommend Microsoft Explorer from version 7 on, or Mozilla Firefox from version 3 on.

Flexible Layout

This website has a flexible design and adapts itself to the size of your browser window. Best representation will be at a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.

Font

To change the font size keep the ctrl key pressed

and activate the scroll wheel on the mouse,
or press the “+” key or “-“ key of the num keypad.

The font size can also be varied via your browser settings:

Internet Explorer

For the Internet Explorer from version 6 on change the font size in the menu view, submenu font size.
For version 7 of the Internet Explorer proceed via the button page, or in the menu view, submenu font size.

Mozilla Firefox

For the Firefox the font size is zoomed in or zoomed out via the menu view, submenu font size or zoom.

Navigation

The pages have a uniform structure with separate navigation and content.

Straight at the beginning of the pages you can find hidden internal hyperlinks which allow to go directly (by using the TAB key) to

the content (homepage),
the navigation menu (News, Products, Geoinformtion, etc.),
the search function,
the service (RSS newsfeeds, glossary, print function),
additional information (site map, help function, contact, etc.).

In addition, the site map presents a link list of all items and sub-items which are offered at the websites of the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy.

Access Keys

Some of the browsers support the so-called access keys. Simple key combinations are leading to the relevant services of the web site (Internet Explorer: ALT+access key+ENTER / Mozilla Firefox: ALT+SHIFT+access key).

The following key combinations are supported on the sites of the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy:

Download of Datafiles

PDF files

A PDF Reader is necessary to open the PDF documents offered.

If you put in the keywords "pdf" and "reader" into an internet-search engine you will find a fullness of PDF-Readern for free Download.

The download documents are given as title with information on file format and size in brackets, as i.e. Report (pdf 13-KB).

Click on the underlined document title to open a file.

Web accessibility of pdf files

Some of the documents offered for download are not completely accessible in the web. This may occur in the case of older documents the original of which is no longer available, or of documents which were not written at the Bundesamt für Kartographie und Geodäsie. These documents will not be adapted afterwards.

It is our intention to offer our future pdf files as far as possible with web accessible content and/or to publish the content in the HTML format.

Print Function

The function “Print” at the left-sided service navigation allows printing a page in the DIN A4 format without printing the navigation, the headpiece and the right-sided margin column.

Search

The search function is located on the left side directly at the head of the navigation tree. Write one or several terms (separated by blanks) into the “search” box. Start the search function by clicking at the green arrow.
